Holding Onto Hope: Doreen’s Fight for Stability
Doreen is in her mid 60’s and has been unhoused for about three years. Doreen was born in Pottstown and has lived here most of her life. Before becoming a guest of Beacon of Hope, she previously shared a residence with her mother. When her mother passed away, Doreen could no longer afford the payment for her home on her limited social security budget and was evicted within a few months.
She has been very grateful to Beacon of Hope for providing a warm, safe place to sleep during the winter months. Despite her circumstances, she continues to push forward every day and keeps a positive attitude. Doreen expressed that more than anything, she does not want to be a burden on others, especially her family. Her goal is to find a room or small apartment that she can afford with her limited budget.
